The goalkeeper of Al-Hilal celebrates with his mother

Yassine Bounou’s celebration alongside his mother for winning the award for the best African goalkeeper has sparked a positive reaction, with Al Hilal  expressing admiration for this special moment.

The Moroccan national team and Al Hilal’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, clinched the award presented by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the year 2023. The official Al Hilal team account shared glimpses of Bounou’s celebration with the award, commenting, “A well-deserved joy with his mother,” which resonated positively with followers.

Following the announcement of Bounou’s victory, Al Hilal’s official Twitter account tweeted, “Bounou… the golden glove, and a journey of glory renewed.”

Despite securing the prestigious award, the 32-year-old goalkeeper chose not to attend the award ceremony held in Marrakech due to its clash with Al Hilal’s match in the Saudi King’s Cup. Bounou declined to attend the ceremony to stand in solidarity with his team in a game that ended with Al Hilal winning 3-0. Even though the club’s management allowed him to leave and personally receive the award, Bounou prioritized his commitment to the team.

Bounou played a pivotal role in Morocco’s national team reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Additionally, he contributed significantly to his former team, Sevilla, winning the UEFA Europa League title for the 2023/2022 season.
