Saudi Arabian al-ahly Club officials officially signed with England’s Ron Gurley to take over as chief executive officer of the Western Club in the coming period.

The English executive will begin his duties on January 1, succeeding former president Lizen Al-Sharif, who will assume another position in Al Ahly.

Earlier press reports on November 28 indicated that the Saudi club  al-ahly was close to signing Gurley after the parties agreed to do so.

The club’s official signatures will be undertaken by Gurley in both contractual matters, sponsorships, contract renewals and negotiation with foreign and domestic players, while the final selection and decision will be made by German Jeddah eligible coach Matthias Yessel, as agreed by the parties.

Ron Gurley has been executive president at Chelsea since 2004, and has previously worked with Manchester United and Ambro. He was appointed CEO of Chelsea on 17 September, following Peter Kenyon’s decision to leave the club on 31 October 2009 and on 10 July 2007 Gurley was appointed CEO of Reading.

Al-Ahly has scored wobbly results since the start of the Saudi Roshen League, placing him third in the table with 34 points and 14 points behind Al Hilal.
