In an unprecedented move this season, Al-Hilal FC has requested a full team of non-Saudi referees for their highly anticipated match against Al-Nassr, scheduled for December 1st in the 15th round of the Saudi Roshen League. This key match will take place at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.

For the first time this season, a local club has sought a complete international refereeing team, including the main referee, assistants, and the VAR team. A source close to “Al-Riyadiyah” revealed that the Saudi Football Federation’s Referees Committee is aiming to bring in elite referees from Europe, specifically from Italy, despite the challenges in securing top-tier European referees.

So far, European referees have officiated 10 matches in the current season. Notably, Danny Makkelie from the Netherlands, an elite “Category A” referee, officiated the Al-Ittihad vs Al-Ahli match in the ninth round.

Before the derby, Al-Hilal leads the league with 35 points and is set to face Al-Hazm next Saturday. Al-Nassr, trailing by four points, will host Al-Khodood this Friday in the 14th round.

This strategic decision by Al-Hilal underscores the importance of the upcoming Riyadh Derby, a match that not only holds significant points but also prestige in the Saudi Roshen League.
