Saudi press reports revealed a high-calibre surprise that Portuguese coach Luis Castro could be sacked as Saudi Arabia’s head coach of Al-Nasr from global training due to the Saudi Super Cup.
The news comes less than 24 hours after victory was defeated by Spanish Almeria “amicably” by three unanswered goals, at the end of the world camp in preparation for the 2024-25 new season, which kicks off less than a week later.
Luis Castro threatens to be removed from Saudi al-nasr
The Saudi newspaper Al-Maidan said through its sources that there was dissatisfaction within the management of Al-Nasr because of the team’s meagre technical levels, during its preparatory friendly games for the new football season under the leadership of the Portuguese coach.
Al-Nasr suffered poor results during his preparatory camp in Portugal, drawing a negative draw with Maritimo, Farnzi and Lucitano, and a positive goal to represent him against Loletiano, while losing (1-0) against Portimonense, falling to Porto by a clean quartet; In his camp in Spain he was defeated from 1-0 from Granada, along with the loss from Almeria.
According to the same source, the Saudi Super Cup will be Luis Castro’s last chances of victory, following last season’s failures.
Al-Nasr finished second last season in the Saudi Roshen League, 14 points behind Al-Hilal, the champion of the competition, and “Yellow Capital” also bestowed farewell to the Asian Champions League from the quarter-finals by the Emirati club Al-Ain.
