Al-Ittihad Club announced on Sunday the signing of left-back Muath Fagehi from Al-Hilal’s first football team, bolstering their squad for the next four seasons.
The contract signing ceremony with Faqehi took place in Alicante, Spain, where the team is holding their pre-season training camp, attended by the club’s CEO, Portuguese Domingos Oliveira.
On July 12, a famous website reported from exclusive sources that Al-Hilal had accepted offers from both Neom and Al-Ittihad to sign Faqihi this summer. However, they allowed the player to choose, paving the way for his departure from the capital club. On July 19, they headlined: “Al-Ittihad agrees with Al-Hilal to purchase Faqihi’s contract,” and detailed that “Al-Ittihad’s management reached a final agreement with Al-Hilal to buy out the remaining period of Muath Faqihi’s contract.”
Faqehi, 22, progressed through Al-Hilal’s youth ranks to the first team before being loaned to Al-Taawoun last season. He played 27 matches with “Sukari Al-Qassim,” according to statistics from Transfermarkt, and won the Saudi Pro League’s Best Young Player award for September last year.
Muath Fagehi has become the sixth player to join Al-Ittihad’s ranks in the current summer transfer window, following the signing of goalkeeper Hamed Al-Shanqeeti from Al-Shabab, the activation of the transfer clauses for Ahmad Al-Ghamdi and Saad Al-Mousa from Al-Ettifaq, along with their teammate Hamed Al-Ghamdi on loan.
