An official in the Saudi Professional Clubs Association said in television statements yesterday evening that there is no truth to the rumors that emerged about Cristiano Ronaldo changing his destination from Al-Hilal Club to Al-Nasr Club when he came to the Saudi League.
The association’s vice president said in the statements: “There is no truth to what is being said that we negotiated with Cristiano Ronaldo in favor of Al Hilal at first, and then the deal turned into Al Nasr because Blue was prohibited from registering players at that time. The negotiation from the beginning was in the interest of Yellow.”
Ronaldo joined Al-Nasr during the winter transfer period, in January 2023, which opened the door to heavy-caliber deals in the summer period of the Saudi League.
Ronaldo tops the league’s top scorers after the 14th round, having scored 13 goals, ahead of Al Hilal star Mitrovic, who scored 11 goals.
The capital, Riyadh, is awaiting an exciting derby on December 1, bringing together Al Hilal and Al Nassr in a match that is expected to directly affect the league standings for the current year.
The Vice President of the Association added in the statements: “Saudi clubs cannot contract with any foreign player without the approval of the Association, even if the club will bear the cost of the deal, and clubs cannot terminate players’ contracts except after referring to us.”
He concluded his statements: “We are not good at the policy of selling players, unlike European clubs. Saudi clubs lose between 350 and 400 million riyals annually due to terminating the contracts of players and coaches, and bearing the penalty conditions.”
