The Saudi First Division club, Neom, announced today, Sunday, the official signing of Saudi international Salman Al-Faraj, the former captain of Al Hilal, to strengthen the team starting from the 2024/2025 season. The contract details were not disclosed.
The club’s official account on the platform (X) posted a video showing the player wearing the Saudi national team jersey and his new team’s jersey, with the caption: “Salman Al-Faraj is here.”
On the other hand, Al Hilal posted a video on their official account on the platform (X), titled “23 Golds… Salman Al-Faraj, a Journey of Glory… Thank You, Salman Al-Faraj,” highlighting the player’s most memorable moments at the club.
Al Hilal had announced on July 1st that Salman Al-Faraj would be leaving the team, despite having a year left on his contract, a decision made by the team’s head coach, Jorge Jesus.
Salman Al-Faraj is considered one of the historic players in Al Hilal’s history, having been promoted to the first team in July 2008. He won 21 titles with Al Hilal, including the Saudi Pro League (8 times), the King’s Cup (5 times), the Saudi Super Cup (3 times), the Crown Prince Cup (3 times), and the AFC Champions League (twice).
Salman is also the most decorated player in the history of the Saudi Pro League since its inception in the 2008/2009 season, with a total of eight titles.
At 35 years old, he becomes Neom’s ninth signing during the current summer transfer window. The club has already bolstered its squad with eight new players: Brazilian striker Romarinho, formerly of Al Ittihad, Osama Al-Khalaf after his contract ended with Al-Fayha, Abbas Al-Hassan from Al-Fateh, goalkeeper Mustafa Malaika, Abdulmalik Al-Ayeri, Senegalese forward Mbaye Diagne, Islam Hawsawi from Al-Wehda, and Guinean Alpha Semedo from Al-Tai. Additionally, the club signed Brazilian Pericles Chamusca as the new head coach.
