Neymar renews his contract with Al-Hilal

Santos FC officials have disclosed that Neymar Jr., the Brazilian football sensation currently playing for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. has informed them about Al-Hilal’s interest in extending his contract. This revelation comes amidst Neymar’s absence from play due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained during a match against Uruguay on October 18th. Following surgery in Brazil, Neymar is presently undergoing rehabilitation at Al-Hilal’s facilities.

In an exclusive statement Marcelo Teixeira, president of Santos, revealed, that Neymar informed us of Al-Hilal’s desire to extend his contract to compensate for his absence due to injury, although no official agreement has been reached yet. Teixeira further elaborated, stating, We’re closely monitoring Neymar’s situation with the Saudi club to determine whether there’s a possibility of him not continuing with them. This scrutiny aims to initiate formal negotiations for Neymar’s potential return.

Having signed Neymar for a two-season contract until June 2025, Al-Hilal faces the looming free period, allowing Neymar to potentially join any club without the need for Al-Hilal’s consent starting January next year. Regarding Neymar’s inclination towards returning to Brazil, Teixeira asserted, “The groundwork is laid for Neymar’s return, contingent upon his personal desire.”

Previously, Santos’ president had clarified to Globo Esportes about ongoing discussions between Neymar and Al-Hilal to extend his contract for an additional third year. He emphasized that while the club’s decision doesn’t hinge on Santos, they are actively monitoring Neymar’s case.

Neymar’s stint with Al-Hilal in the current season was marked by his participation in five matches, including the Saudi Professional League and the AFC Champions League, wherein he contributed with one goal and three assists before succumbing to injury.
