The AFC selected Saudi Arabia to host the final roles of the AFC Champions League competition “elite” in the next two seasons, it said in a statement yesterday.
The selection followed an assessment of infrastructure, hosting requirements, as well as other key operational aspects, and outperformed its Iraqi counterpart.
The tournament will involve 24 clubs, which will be distributed in two sections, with each division comprising 12 clubs in the West and East regions, to compete with the league’s back-and-forth system, to identify teams qualifying for the round of 16, with the winners in the round of 16 qualifying for the final round.
