Saudi Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal has revealed the failure of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah’s transfer from the Liverpool English team to the Jeddah Federation.
Since the Egyptian Pharaoh’s performance declined after returning from the injury he suffered last season, calls for him to be offered for sale rose, especially as his technical and physical level declined, and he lacked many of his previous skills in sprinting and scoring goals. Saudi clubs soon began their moves to kidnap the captain of Egypt, via a major deal worth an estimated £100 million.
Al-itthad offer to Salah does not meet Liverpool’s financial requirements
Prince Abdelaziz bin Turki al-Faisal said in comments reported by the media: “The al-itthad has strived to sign Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, but the amount requested far exceeds expectations, even compared to brilliant names in the world of football such as Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. Liverpool have required a huge sum to borrow the player for one year, which the FA deemed too exorbitant to bear. ”
He added: “The Etihad sought to open channels of communication with Liverpool to discuss the possibility of including Salah, but the English club’s response was categorical in refusing to give up one of its most important players, and that closed the door completely decisively, the material cost would have been very high, and in the end it was only a loan.”
After this decision, Liverpool are expected to begin discussions to renew the Egyptian captain’s contract for two more years, in order to continue their campaign at Anfield. The English club seeks to avoid the idea of losing the Egyptian star’s services free of charge a year from now, meaning renewal talks will begin over the next few days.
Mohamed Salah is fifth in the list of Liverpool’s best strikers in history, surpassing many giant names, most notably Michael Owen, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez, which has prompted many legends to warn of the danger of giving up their services, as an element that cannot be easily conceded this summer.
Mohamed Salah played for Liverpool during his 349 professional career across various competitions, scoring 211 goals with 89 assists, with a total of 28,207 minutes played, making him one of the club’s most prominent legends.
