Al-Ittihad

Al-Ittihad
Al-Ittihad Football Club is one of the most prominent clubs in Saudi Arabia, boasting a long history in both Saudi and Asian football.

Club Foundation:

Al-Ittihad was founded on December 26, 1927, by some of the most passionate football enthusiasts in Jeddah. They convened at radio broadcasting company offices and discussed the idea of forming a football club that would compete with various traveling teams of that time. The club was also envisioned as a source of entertainment for the residents and an outlet for the city's youth to play football. A consensus was reached on the idea of creating a united team, and thus, Al-Ittihad of Jeddah was born. The founding members included Hamza Fatehi, Abdul Samad Najib Al-Saadi, Ismail Zahran, Ali Yamani, Abdulaziz Jameel, Abdulatif Jameel, Abdulatif Langawi, Othman Banajah, Ahmed Abu Talib, Ali Sultan, Ahmed Al-Meer, and Saleh Salama.

Al-Ittihad Club Headquarters:

Al-Ittihad is the oldest active sports club in Saudi Arabia. It was established following a meeting of prominent football enthusiasts in Jeddah. The club's most successful period spanned from the early 1990s to the start of the new millennium, during which it secured numerous titles and achievements.

Al-Ittihad Stadium:

The club plays its home matches at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, often referred to as "The Shining Jewel". Located in Jeddah, it's one of the most modern and largest stadiums in Saudi Arabia, with a capacity of over 60,000 spectators. The stadium was inaugurated in 2014 and has since hosted numerous local and international matches, as well as other sports and cultural events. Its design and facilities rank it among the best stadiums in the Middle East.

Championships of Al-Ittihad:

Al-Ittihad clinched its first title by winning the King's Cup on May 2, 1960, after defeating Al-Ahli with a score of 7-0. The club secured this title consecutively in the years 1958, 1959, and 1960. After a dry spell, Al-Ittihad reclaimed the King's Cup in 1967 and the Saudi Federation Cup in 1974. In the following decade, the club won its first joint league title in 1982. After a 21-year hiatus, Al-Ittihad lifted the King's Cup once again in 1988. In the mid-1990s, Al-Ittihad experienced a significant resurgence, achieving a treble in the 1996-97 season: the Premier League, Crown Prince Cup, and the Saudi Federation Cup. In the 1998-99 season, the club won the league title and the Gulf Club Cup. That same year, Al-Ittihad finished as runners-up in the Asian Super Cup. With the dawn of the new millennium, Al-Ittihad secured eight titles in three years. They won the league in the 1999-2000 season and the Crown Prince Cup in the subsequent season. In 2002, Al-Ittihad lost the league final to Al-Hilal in a controversial match. Under the presidency of Mansour Al-Balawi, the club clinched the AFC Champions League title consecutively in 2004 and 2005, a record achievement. In 2005, Al-Ittihad participated in the FIFA Club World Cup and secured fourth place.
